Your Plant Is Already Running. The Question Is: What Is It Hiding?

Most existing solar plants were built with string- or inverter-level monitoring. That was state-of-the-art at the time. Today it leaves critical gaps: module-level performance changes, early degradation, soiling gradients and diode stress can remain hidden inside aggregated string and inverter values.

SunSniffer gives you what you have never had: continuous, module-level visibility on an existing plant — without replacing inverters, rewiring strings or shutting down production.

The problem

What you miss in an operating plant.

Conventional string or inverter monitoring hides exactly the failure modes that cost the most to discover late.

02
The smart way to retrofit

Start small. Scale with confidence.

You do not need to retrofit the entire plant at once. The smartest approach is phased and evidence-based.

Step · pilot
120 modules · representative strings
Retrofit 120 modules
Across representative strings. Real data quickly, minimal install effort — and zero downtime.
Step · analyse

Let Ray analyse
Ray reads your pilot data and tells you exactly where to expand next.
Step · expand
section by section · only where proven
Expand by evidence
Only where the value is proven. Minimises cost and disruption.

Even a partial deployment gives you statistically meaningful visibility into broader plant health.

03
The pilot

Start with 120 modules. See what you have been missing.

One kit. One installation. Real module-level data within the first clear sky days.

Day 00 h downtime
Install without stopping

Pick one zone — 120 modules across a few representative strings. Sensors clip on, one String Reader per string, one Gateway. Connected to your SCADA via standard API.

Every module gets a baseline

TrueSTC calculates an STC-equivalent baseline for every module in the pilot zone — irradiance- and temperature-corrected, timestamped.

Soiling gradients, degradation patterns, diode stress — the losses your current monitoring has been missing, on screen, module by module.

Expansion, guided by Ray

Ray tells you where to expand next.

Once the pilot data is flowing, Ray becomes your intelligent guide.

Ask Ray
"Which zones show the highest hidden losses?"
Ask Ray
"Where should we prioritise the next retrofit for maximum ROI?"
Ask Ray
"Which modules are trending toward failure?"

Ray analyses the pilot data together with your existing plant data, calls TrueSTC, DiodeVital, PVLib — and returns a clear, prioritised expansion plan. You decide where additional measurement creates the greatest value — section by section.

05
The result

A living baseline for the whole plant. Built incrementally.

01
A continuous performance baseline for every monitored module
02
Evidence-based O&M decisions backed by module-level data
03
Stronger support for warranty enforcement, insurance claims, and asset sale
04
A plant that becomes more transparent and lower-risk with every section added

The investment compounds: the more you measure, the more valuable Ray becomes.

In development · Clamp-on retrofit

Module-level data without touching a single DC connection.

The String Claw clips around the string cable next to the inverter and plugs into the X-String Reader via USB. Clamp, plug, connect — done. No cable opened, no string disconnected, no downtime. One prerequisite: the clamp-on path suits layouts with one MPP tracker per string — there the inverter supplies the string current. Where several strings share one tracker, the X-String Reader adds its own string-current measurement (in development).

The decision to add intelligence to an existing plant does not have to be all-or-nothing.
